7.35-km connector to offer faster airport access and smoother, signal-free connectivity across the region
Work on the key road link connecting Atal Setu to the Mumbai–Pune Expressway has gathered speed, with authorities aiming to complete the project by February 2027.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said significant progress has already been made on the 7.35-km, six-lane corridor. Once ready, the route will directly connect Atal Setu with the expressway through Chirle and Palaspe in Navi Mumbai, making travel quicker and more efficient.
Officials confirmed that foundation work is nearly complete, with structures progressing steadily across multiple locations. A large number of piers and girders have already been installed, indicating that the project is moving on schedule.
The connector is expected to become a major infrastructure boost for the region, offering a seamless, signal-free route between South Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. It will also improve traffic flow near Palaspe, where road widening and additional access roads are currently under development.
Importantly, the new link will serve as a key route to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, helping travellers from both Mumbai and Pune reach the airport faster.
The project also includes elevated sections at Chirle and Palaspe, which will connect to the JNPT Highway and support smoother movement of goods to and from the port.
According to officials, the connector is part of MMRDA’s larger “Mumbai in Minutes” plan, focused on reducing travel time through better road and transport integration.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to not only ease daily travel but also boost trade, investment and job opportunities across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas.
