Bullet Train Project Achieves Another Milestone as Third Tunnel Breakthrough Completed in Palghar
The successful completion of the third mountain tunnel marks steady progress on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, bringing India’s first high-speed rail project closer to reality.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project has reached another important milestone with the successful breakthrough of its third mountain tunnel in Maharashtra. The tunnel, known as MT-07, has been completed at Ambesari village in Palghar district’s Dahanu taluka.
Measuring 417 metres in length, the tunnel will accommodate both up and down tracks of the high-speed rail corridor. Engineers used controlled drilling and blasting methods from both ends while following strict safety and quality standards.
This is the third mountain tunnel to achieve breakthrough status in Maharashtra within the last five months, highlighting the rapid pace of work on India’s first bullet train project. Earlier, the 1.5-km-long MT-05 tunnel near Saphale was completed in January 2026, followed by the 454-metre-long MT-06 tunnel in February.

Advanced monitoring systems and safety measures were used throughout the excavation process to ensure structural stability and worker safety.
With all three mountain tunnels between the Vapi and Boisar stations now successfully excavated, the project continues to make significant progress. Several other tunnels are also at various stages of completion, strengthening momentum for the country’s first high-speed rail corridor.
