A huge avalanche hit the Mana region in Chamoli, Uttarakhand on Friday, trapping at least 47 workers from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Rescue efforts are ongoing, but heavy snowfall is making the operation difficult, officials said.

Rescue Efforts Underway

A total of 57 workers were caught in the avalanche, but 10 have been rescued and taken to an army camp in critical condition. Teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), BRO, and local authorities are working to find the missing workers.

Uttarakhand Police spokesperson Nilesh Anand Bharne confirmed the situation, stating, “A massive avalanche occurred near the BRO camp, trapping 57 workers. So far, 10 have been rescued and shifted to the army camp.”

Challenges Due to Heavy Snowfall

BRO Executive Engineer C.R. Meena said that ambulances have been sent, but heavy snowfall is making it hard to reach the site.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern, saying that rescue operations are in full swing, and he is praying for the safety of the trapped workers.
