Mumbai Airport Runway Closure On May 7. Know What’s Behind It
Six-hour closure planned to ensure safe operations ahead of monsoon
Mumbai, May 6, 2026: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will carry out its annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance on May 7 between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. During this period, both runways—09/27 and 14/32—will remain temporarily closed.
The maintenance is part of the airport’s monsoon preparedness plan. Authorities had informed airlines and other stakeholders six months in advance, allowing them to adjust flight schedules and avoid major disruptions.
Experts will inspect runway surfaces for any damage and take preventive steps to ensure safe take-offs and landings during the rainy season. The airport will use modern equipment and detailed planning to complete the work within the six-hour window.
CSMIA has coordinated closely with airlines and aviation authorities to ensure minimal inconvenience to passengers. The move highlights the airport’s focus on safety, efficiency, and smooth operations during the monsoon.
