Following reports of trees being cut down in the area designated for an eco-park, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a show cause notice to the District Collector’s office for failing to attend a previous hearing. The matter has now been posted for the next hearing on April 26.

Additionally, they’ve called upon the Forest Department to provide details on the permission process for tree cutting. The case, sparked by allegations of felling around 100 Gliricidia trees, has been transferred to the NGT’s western bench.

During the initial hearing, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest submitted an affidavit citing Gliricidia Sepium as an invasive species, yet the NGT has sought further clarification on the necessity of prior permission for tree felling.

Notably, the NGT expressed disappointment over the absence of representation from the District Collector’s office and has warned of potential summons if no one attends the upcoming hearing.
