Rohit Sharma to lead Indian team at T20 World Cup, Hardik Pandya named Vice-Captain
In a significant announcement, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team at the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.
Shah expressed confidence that under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India would clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados.
Hardik Pandya, who was initially named skipper in January 2023, will continue as the vice-captain. Shah emphasized that Rohit’s outstanding performance during the ODI World Cup, coupled with Hardik’s injury, influenced the decision. Rahul Dravid will serve as the coach for the T20 World Cup.
Shah also addressed the issue of players skipping the Ranji Trophy, stating that a policy would be implemented to discourage such practices, emphasizing the importance of following selectors’ advice.
He added that the BCCI supports Virat Kohli during his personal break and assured that player workload during the IPL would be managed.
