A leopard was spotted roaming on the streets of Mumbai. The inhabitants and others in the vicinity started to panic when they saw a leopard ambling close to the wall of a residential complex on Mumbai’s Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, said a forest department official.

The big cat was seen on the CCTV camera system of the residential society, which is situated near the Aarey Forest. This footage has gone viral on social media.

Residents of the housing complex said that a leopard wandering close to their society is extremely dangerous and frightening for everyone. To solve this problem, the locals have teamed up with forest officials.

According to the official, night patrols are conducted by forest workers every day in and around that area, and they are actively monitoring the situation. If a leopard is sighted, the public should not panic; instead, they should call the forest department’s toll-free helpline at 1926.

According to Pawan Sharma, the founder and president of RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare), merely seeing leopards in suburban Mumbai, particularly along the boundaries of SGNP (Sanjay Gandhi National Park) or Aarey, is not harmful.

He asserted that because of their innate tendencies, wild animals frequently wander into human areas in quest of simple prey.

People should stay out of dimly lit regions at night. Their society ought to be kept well-lit for easy visibility. Security personnel should remain in their cabins and use lamps at night, and small children and pets should be escorted by adults, advised Sharma, who also serves as the forest department’s honorary wildlife warden.
